i think each of us has a 'favorite' period of history. we might tend to gravitate toward dramatic interpretations of that period in film or books. I love all things 'of olde'. History was/is my favorite subject...and thank the Good Lord for Dick G. (American history) at BHS who taught me the art of outlining!! that skill followed me all the way through college and even today...if nothing else than to 'categorize and prioritize' subjects in my head...
so, i'm not sure that i could actually pick a favorite 'period' in history. Hubby tends to like the 'Moorish' and civil war era ( or anything mel gibsonish) but then there is the Every Easter requirement to watch (sit through) Ben Hur....and now that girls are older The Passion.
I like literature that tells of the old British ways or specifically the Edwardian period and how absolutely passive aggressive those women were (and how i wish i could be most times).
this past weekend the big girls, nana and i got to spend the day in the Renaissance period. there is a festival that travels through an area just south of here each fall. i understand that these type of festivals occur all over the midwest and it is kind of a circuit for the vendors...my mom has always talked of taking the girls and i to this festival and finally the opportunity presented itself and we went.
It took only about an hour to get there and parking was a breeze and we had spectacular weather. The 'fairgrounds' are literaly built like a renessance village. the structures are permanent and are quite elaborate. Many many people dress up like their favorite 'Ren' persona. many women in their corsetts and men in their cloaks. (i must also add that this festival has given 'the goth' kids someplace to show off as well....) there are even little children dressed up like elves.
We took in a show of Jousting where we were cheering for the Irish knight (who was actually canadian) and wandered our way through each of the vendors booths. We ate fish and chips and turkey legs (which i'd swear was pig). we gathered ourselves quite a 'booty' of incense, elf ears, pottery and even a new wedding band for hubby!
we spent the better part of the day there and then on our way back stopped at the outlet malls....(return to modern day) wanted to run through the Pottery Barn outlet store...i know mom's who have got some really cute things there...i came away with some fabric cubby buckets....we also picked up some sockees for the wee ones and Ms. R got her birthday wish crocs.
enjoy some pics of the day!!

Ok.....finally made the dreaded trip to Children's ER (my first) - and the experience was very positive - THANK YOU GOD!!!! The doctor and the physician's assistant looked to be - oh about 18 years old. Katherine fell out of her stroller and needed to be checked out. ALL IS WELL. By the time we left the exam room.....Katherine had sure marked her territory....pieces of turkey, bread crumbs, crushed pretzels and the disappearing apple under the bed.....all evidence that she was there. Thanks to Amy Z and Brett and the lady who brought dinner. And most of all to Sheri who once again displayed her overwhelming strength.....
