we-a-be a muddy muddy mess...

this morning was the Conquer the Creek Trail Race.
we had been praying that the rain would stay away....
it did...the sun was actually shining.

i'm not quite sure what i was expecting.
i can say that i clearly did not expect what i got....
the trail is labeled a multi purpose trail...so i kinda had this idea of a path that would support a bicycle or a stroller...perhaps a little paved...

OH Sweet Jesus how wrong i was...
take one look at these sneakers and you can see it the only purpose of this trail was a mud bath...

there were only about 100 people there for the start.
it was the usual mix of young and old...
the in shape and then the not so much (which would be me)
there was the usual long line at the pottys
there were the few doing warm up running laps around the place
there were the 'naked' women..those are the chicks that show up in next to nothin'...and you know what...i'm no prize...but these ladies are kinda gross...all stripped down
i had to laugh at the way the spray tan girl's goose bumps were white...fake tans must not cover cold weather but i'll give her the fact that her legs did go on forever...
my girlfriends and i positionted ourselves at the back of the line...
the horn blew
and away we went...
Ranya was a bat out of hell and took off and was out of eyeshot within the first 8 minutes never to be seen again until crossing the finish line...She LOVED this trail...she was raised on a farm...it figgures this gross mud would rev her engines:)

it was within the first 10 mintutes that i realized this was going to be no fun for me....and i was going to have to push myself to the bitter end...
there was standing water/mud every 50 yards there were hills the whole way...very few flat straight runs...this mud was so deep that it sucked your shoes off your heels and almost took them right off your feet.

ok, i'm the girl that flunked gym - couldn't bear the thought of being sweaty all day.
i'm also the girl who talked about the fact that i shot guns as a 'make up' to douglas..you don't hear me talking about going camping to 'make up' for other things.
the mud was pushing me over the edge the whole way...
with each patch of mud we'd try and move over as far right or left as we could to try and avoid it...but that only led you into a patch of briar branches with thorns as long as my mothers fingernails...
Jaye (one of the gals) hands were so bloody from pushing those branches away that she looked like she'd been in a cat fight.
i kept telling myself to sucombe to the mud and just let it be part of the fun...but i just couldn't ...i simply couldn't get past the mucky ucky brown mess making its way through the mesh of my shoes and into my sox and around my toes...

ICK!!

i was so impressed by my running buddies..they did so so so well!! They conquered the creek for sure!!! They were there to get me through the finish line and i'm happy to say i wasn't last....

i'm not sure i'd do it again..
but i suppose i can say i've done it...at least..

our theme song for the day was Imma Be by the Black Eyed Peas....
Imma Be a full on mess for sure..!!

can't wait to get my shower!1
thanks to mom and Bert for taking care of breakfast and lunch AND for doing all my dishes!! it was a nice treat to come home to a clean kitchen...even if it is embarrasing to know that my mom did it!!
