The girls and I curled up in our bed to watch the special on Randy Pausch last night. I had read the book earlier this summer and i think the girls and i watched him when he appeared on Oprah...(duh...Biggest Fan HERE!! :)and i of course had seen the Youtube a million times
I liked that it wasn't gory at all and it kept dignity in tact for all of the family.
I of course cried a little watching it..Ms. R rubbed my arm and asked if i wanted tissues. was very sweet.
i was so amazed and impressed by Jai, Randy's wife. I have to admit i was anxious to see her and Hear her. other than what was written about her in the book and the couple camios she had on the youtube shots...i've never heard her side. How composed and thoughtful and direct she was! I really liked the way she was upfront about the fact that she has moments when she has to tell herself 'not helpful' but also that she knows that there are tons of people out there in the world with the same if not much worse situations. She doesn't have to Like the situation but she does Accept it. What a woman! We can all hope to be so brave!
.....
i work tonight, off tomorro and then i've got a full 5 day run of working. so if you don't hear from me..don't worry...i'm just busy opening up credit card accounts!!
feel free to check in with our family....just don't leave me voicemail messages telling me that when you called you could hear all bloody hell breaking loose in the background!!
......
on an exciting note: after much deliberation over paint colors...decisions were made and color swatches have been mailed to uncle pete et al. the girls have chosen a very hip brown/blue/green combination for their room....i'm adding two walls of coral to the wee ones room that is currently all blue.
i'm adding some color to the master bed/bath...it has been/as has been most of the upstairs all primer up to this point.
in the kitchen...you know...my classic 1950's kitch room..i'm adding a color called agate green to the walls to compliment the cartruse tile. yes...that cartruse...that almost neon but not quite neon yellow color....this green i think will compliment nicely....and if you don't think so....don't tell me. i had given some serious thought to going with 'the rooster' theme in the kitchen. but....in our first house i did a fruit thing...and that got gross after a while..(not to mention the big apple i painted on the wall) ..so i'm thinking not going with a theme is best.
the guest room ->b/c i expect to have GUESTS!! will be a soft grey color. it is currently rasberry and neon green -> it was ms. R's preppy room prior to the move...and the sherwin guy kind of cocked his head to the side when i told him about how shiny it was on the walls and ceiling. gulp! oil primer he said!! OIL!! i'm hoping to do something contemporary but not too cold in there. the grey will also follow into the guest bath (which serves as the girls bath as well). that grey needs to played up a bit...i have to go grey due to the LARGE Art Deco glass tile around the room. you'd think Woody Hayes himself designed the room. The grey tile with the crimson tile border. Uncle pete is hopefully going to put a new floor in there as well. now that it will be a 'guest' room'...it had better have a decent floor. right now the original lenolium has kind of become 'one with the subfloor'...ick!! not a problem when no one would see it...but now.....
the backroom/new master room will be white..hubby said he wanted the room to be as white as possible so that he can see at night. so, i ordered pure white. i'm thinking it is going to be a bit sterile...i'll need to find a way to warm it up a bit...hubby's mom/sister are really good with whites. they have that 'romantic bone' in their bodies...i will need to consult with them.
oh boy, the basement...our big girls are all excited about the fact that they will have a basement to hang out in.
it makes me laugh...as a kid...if someone had a basement or an upstairs i thought they were 'rich'. (i lived in a post war built ranch) and now, i think the next house i buy i want a ranch...'the circle of life.....'...can you hear elton?????
anyway, nana has put herself in charge of the basement. (you know..i wander if she has that same upstairs/downstairs hangup...she was raised in the same house i was...hmmmmmmmmmmm) i'm thinking a large carpet remnant and i'll put Patchy the couch down there with a tv and the thomas train table (THANKS AMYZ - i don't know how you live without the train table...really i don't)))
of course i have that worry about 'loosing the kids' to the basement abyss...i mean...i remember what went on down there in those rich kids basements ha ha!!! gulp.
hubby is trying to figure out how we might be able to put the washer and dryer in the garage...you know...first floor laundry!! how luxurious!! now that i've had a first floor laundry..man alive..it is like heaven!! so,if there is a way to get these bad boys tucked in and insulated...i wanna do it...if any of you have some experience with this...give me a holler...
and so it goes..
the wee ones are up...so i'd better go..
love and kisses to all!!
