mary ann brandt and our Lou!

there is a favorite scrapbook page of ms. R's that shows her finger painting abilities...with ....chocolate pudding. I learned from daycare workers when V was little that tactile involvement is crucial in childhood development and the fact that that can be messy is besides the point...in other words...Get over it mom!!
so, bravely i headed into the realm of motherhood. with V i would cover the highchair tray with saran wrap and then go to great lengths to find some 'playdough' recipe on the Internet...then go in search of all the ingredients and then take the time to put it all together....she got her tactile experience and i got a big head thinking i was mother of the year...
well, of course it didn't take long b4 i figured out that i would never be mother of the year...and that was fine!! (just someday i'd be the hottest mom in white jeans!! ha).
anyway, when our R came along..i returned to my child development books and remembered that a tactile experience is critical. it just so happened one day that she put together her own tactile experience...right on in the middle of the table with some chocolate pudding!!! yep, lots of brown all over the table..all over the chairs and of course all over her!!!
i didn't freak out as much i would have a few years earlier..and decided to document it.
this morning....our little Lou endeavored to have her own tactile experience....she finger painted with applesauce all over the table!! we laughed and laughed and ms. R ran to get the camera!!
and this time..i didn't freak out at all...just enjoyed the moment and then grabbed the paper towels and Windex!!
hm.....am i getting old...
or are we possibly raising future finger painting artist?!!

did a search of finger painting artist, ran across this lady...Mary Ann Brandt. She has some pretty cool stuff....most likely had to marry well...but looks to be successful! anyway,,, as i was perusing her art works i ran across this one...
it is titled He Is Not Here. now, being a christian of course for me this is an interpretation of the empty tomb of Christ. it strikes me..i like the way the yellows emit a kind of forward moving light...
anyway...this reminded me of the Final Mass i watched last night from Sidney Australia at the World Youth Day!! how very very very kewl!!! our Pontiff looked and sounded great! i loved his words of devotion to the blessed mother and his talk of patience and courage!
oh how i hope that one day our kids will be able to attend a World Youth Day...i mean,,,how cool can it be to go hang out with a bunch a folks who 'get you'?
now, i know what my friend MGR would say...'sheri, it is easy to be a follower when you are surrounded by like minded folks...the test comes when we need to show our Christian selves in an unchristian world!' i couldn't agree more...and i also think that this kind of experience can help usher our kids into adulthood with some additional armor!!

getting weepy now...going to sign off...gee, did i take my happy pill yet??? i'd better go look!! ha!
