the roof...the roof....the roof is on fire....

exciting morning here at the roost.
mr. k had stopped throwing up early this morning.
Lu started her bout with poor aunt susie while i was down at the VA office (to find out that my appt. had been canceld due to my guy having the flu)
got home and shooed aunt susie out the door
cleaned up some stomach matter
got lu changed...for the second time

decided that we would cuddle on the couch in front of a fire...
wrapped Lu up in a blanket on the couch
put some wood in the fireplace
turned on the gas (to point i could hear it hissing - that way i knew it was on)
stood up and grabbed the fireplace matches and struck one...

holy Mother of God...BACKDRAFT THE MOVIE part Two...a fire ball leaped out of my fireplace and crawled across the air to make a fire bridge with the match i was holding...it made this swooshing kind of sound and as quick as it had leapt out at me it went right back into the fireplace.

i thank my lucky stars and went to the kitchen to get something to drink and within seconds i could smell smoke...

OH YEAH!!! the back room was filling up with smoke and it had already gone into the front room and by this time Mr. K is saying PEE YUUUU that stinks...and poor Lu is getting enveloped right b4 my very eyes.

i ran over and turned the gas off and that made the flame go away just like that.
but then the black smoke just kept coming out and out and out and then up and up all around my room....i opened up some windows and got an oven mitt to try and open the flue and try as i might..i couldn't get it....

tail between my legs i began making calls around the hood lookin' for a husband that was home perhaps on lunch or something and ask them to come over and help me get this flue opened. took only a few calls and within an hour a couple guys were here getting it opened...and then giving me 'proper instructions' on how to light the fire using the gas.

i'm wondering what douglas is thinking???? :)

it is all good now...fire is burning...lu is down for nap.

i've moved onto other issues...like my silly hot tub again.
the water seems to be getting low quickly....and when it gets below a certain point it goes into a sleep type state and the heater stops....and thus...can't enjoy the tub. i found a hose and did add some water...will wait for a bit and see if it is getting warmer again b4 i call the guy i bought it from....

this evening (pending additional pukers) M and I hope to get out to look for some shades for the back room....i'm hopeful that we can salvage the thermal drapes i had in there b4 and then just jazz them up a bit with some new rods and shades.

and then...just maybe the hot tub will be back up and you can come join me for a dip.....have a bunch of wine and beer...so just grab your suit and robe!!
