a fitting begining to Lent

took the big girls to see Jesus Christ Supertar this evening. Tim Neely stared as our Lord who, by the way was the same guy to play Jesus in the actual film. yes, he was a bit old..but....long hair and beard....fit the proverbial bill so to speak.

now, my 13 year old was none to pleased to be heading out for a night at the theater with her mother and sister. ms. R i think was happy to be getting out.

the production was everything that i expected. i mean, i must have seen the movie at some point in my life...but i vividly remember playing the soundtrack album over and over and over again in my 'stereo room' when i was a kid. i had created the set many times in my head. costumes were well within the expectation realm with kudos going to Judas and King Herod's flamboyant duds.

my R made the comment after reading through the playbill that there would be a scene of the crucifixion and how she always wandered what that would 'look like'. that made me think for a minute. for me, this musical certainly repeats events in the bible that i've heard so many times that i've not really seen or envisioned them to be any other way...but i have those notions firmly planted in my head...

for my big girls...perhaps...this is their first experience of having the Passion play out before them in a medium other than the written word. although, i will agree with a friend MS that there is a 'lot of yelling'....i think that the yelling keeps the audience engaged and not board...or at the very least..my big girls sat up in full attention for the entire production.

a fitting beginning for Lent i'd say.
sacrifices already made by Sue Sue and Nana for coming over to hang out with the wee ones!!!

oh, and i think i'll share with you a story that aunt sue told me...
when she (aunt sue) had her own apt. she let her little sister..my aunt mary have a slumber party...and aunt sue remembers hearing the girls sing over and over and over again a song from Jesus Christ Superstar...'I don't know how to love him'

Glad you and the girls got to have a night out at the theater. Jesus Christ Superstar was always one of my favorites. We've taken our kids to see it a few times, too.
