light demo...

friend mimi is suffering from the effects of the economy and was layed off from a position she had for 11 years. we've had about a month to get used to the idea....i was concerned about her first week of no work so i asked her and another gal amy to come over and join me in completing the backsplash in the kitchen. i have been so in love with the silver cross hatch backsplash that mimi et al did on our miracle makeover and knew that i would want to finish it all the way around the kitchen at some point.

so...for the past couple days mimi has come over and amy too and we've almost got it done. there was a minor mishap however.

pete took the sink out so that we could move the countertop. we needed to get all of the tile out from behind it. well, with the sink out of comission plates and cups just pile up. when i got home from dinner with my folks last night...i loaded up the dishwasher and ran it.

about an hour later i went back into the kitchen to find a very very large puddle on the floor.....

note to self: when sink is out do NOT use dishwasher...DUMMY>>>>

so....with a sopping wet floor all of my fake pergo pealed up and puckered and got soppy like wet crackers....what a mess.....and you know what...it got stinky too....

you can't tell in the pics very much but the boards raised up enough to trip yourself when walking over it..


so.....off to the tile store i'll go next week.....

meanwhile...the backsplash is fantastic!!!
