was so excited to get going this morning....mimi had agreed to head out to take me to pick up the Pilot doesn't she look better??? poor dear...punched her lights out i did.and then follow me over to drop off the mini van at the mechanics. ..but.. dare i tell you that i discovered the mini van had no oil.
last week the mini van oil-can picture light would ding and illuminate when i turned corners. so, it wasn't constant..so i thought it wasn't all THAT big of a deal. on friday, met some friends for lunch and when we were all walking out i asked one of the guys to check my oil..told him about the whole dingy lighty thing.
you know, you think once you become a grown woman you expect never to get that whole 'father look down the nose at you naughty girl' look....well, when we popped the hood...FIRST.. the broken - split in two hose jumped out and said..LOOK at me...then when chuck pulled the oil stick thing out and it was bone dry i thought i'd fall through the pavement.
he gave me that 'father look down the nose at you naughty girl' look and shook his head...told me the next lunch was on me and proceeded to go to the gas station across the way and purchase three bottles of oil...as they were poured..another guy who also tried to pull off that 'father look down the nose at you naughty girl' look says...'now, when you leave here you are going right to somewhere that knows you and your car'.....
i thanked them both for the saving Grace...i did stick out my tongue at them.. i figure i can pay back in kind...(actually, i stick my tongue out at lot at people..they just don't know it...)(or do they?)
i drove in a mild paranoid state to Bob's...a local joint that has done some work for me/us. the manager assured me that the broken hose was not a critical thing and that it could wait until monday...and then on monday my oil would be changed and they would fix the broken hose and oh by the way figure out why my A/C isn't working...
this whole oil experience makes me think of my first car...my very first car was a mustang...a very kewl mustang. my father took me to pick it up. it wasn't too far from our apartment in NY....but far enough...really far if you consider the fact that it was a Standard shift and i'd never really driven one like that b4/ my friend liz and i had a friend who had a truck with the shifter thingy on the console...it was a big truck...so i kind of had an idea...i got home...
anyway...that little mustang was promptly decorated with a Stevie Nicks bumper sticker and on my rearview mirror hung my rosary and a headband with flowers and ribbons hanging from it that i had worn to a Grateful Dead concert...god i was so cool......so damn cool.....ha!!!! it had a cassett tape deck and crank windows and a white hard top.

i should get to the point shouldn't i???
so, it was a great car and i worked and payed for my insurance and my gas...and i think the transmission needed to be replaced once..(boy friend thought it was cool too...but not cool enough to drag race...)
i drove that car back and forth b/w columbus and buffalo i don't know how many times.
when i moved back here permanently i was driving E, who would become my sister in law to school and my engine just cu-put...i mean it just stopped....
had it towed back to my mom's house
didn't know really what to do at that time..
engine was totally and utterly destroyed....
why...
why...
(not so Nancy Carrigan dramatic though)
never put a lick of oil in the thing....
never knew i needed to...
poor little mustang...
now i've gone and tortured my van.
will pick her up tomorrow and beg for forgiveness....
