the sun is not 'awake'...what i see of the backyard is all in sepia tone but the birds are chirping and i have spandex on so...IT must be sunday morning....time to run!! the newspaper isn't even here yet....geesh...Today our group is running the 5 k course that will be run on the Fourth to begin a day of celebration. for those lacking in athletic prowess as I, should know that a 5K is 3.1 miles. up to this point it has been fairly easy. i think that the strength training that i've been doing these last several months has had a positive impact on my ability to not be as fatigued as i'm sure i would be otherwise. on our thursday 'night' run we battled the elements. it looked and smelled like rain b4 we took off...but it didn't look terribly omonice and i didn't worry about getting caught in bad weather. on the last half mile the skies opened up and it just started to rain and lightening like no bodies business.
the street we were running is very heavily treed so i'm sure i would have been more worried had i had a good view of the sky....the rain felt good actually....took the sting of sweat away....and it kind of served as a nerve diverted... if my feet were hurting as the rain started...once i started actually feeling the rain on my arms and legs it diverted my attention to those spots and i quickly forgot my other aches. THAT i thought was pretty cool....Distractions good! my running partner decided to turn off onto her street which is a few blocks shy of our start point so we bid eachother 'adieu' and i proceeded to do the last blocks
by myself
in the dark
well not so dark when the lightening shot through the sky
in the rain
it was awesome!!!
i felt very GI Jane!!! translation...GI Bubba Gump ..but who cares when your creating a mood in your head!!!
a couple girls that had already finished (this would be EVERYONE had finished but ME and one other girl who ran farther than me) stopped by to offer my a ride back to the start....
i of course waved them on...'no no'....'i'm good'....'thanks though'
and i pushed through it...
watched as the end got closer and closer....
this morning...
we do the 5k route to practice for the race next week....

update:
i ran the 5k....no problem-oh....i can't believe it...it was totally cool...kept a slow pace...did have to stop and pee real quick...but got right back out there...considered holding it...but it was way too early into my first mile...so..i had to just...
um...
well...
grin and bare it:)
Catherine stayed right with me and couple other ladies...she is a very patient teacher...and she is a marathon running machine..so hanging with us must be torture...she had water stations already set up for our group at particular mile markers and went over 'running etiquette' for us.
i'm really kind of excited about this race....
i'm hoping that the big girls are able to be at the finish line to cheer me on...
thanks for everyone's positive support in this effort..i know you are just as surprised as me~!!

S - I am so very proud of you....not just for the "pain and suffering associated with running" and I don't just mean going up and down the stairs but getting up so early. I've known you for a long time - early is absolutely not on your list of favorite things to do. I'm proud of how far you and the kids have come these oh so hard several months. Thanks to for your friends - both near and far - what an incredible bunch.
