as i wade thru the health care bill....it is over a thousand pages long....
i thank friend Kurt Bateman for posting this on facebook....
i have been mulling around my response to all of health care bravado......
i can only offer the following:
1. with change...can it really be worse than it is.
2. i hate when the 'change' is referred to as Socialism....this country couldn't pull it together enough to be Socialist....(not that i support socialism)
3. when i had insurance through an employer...i paid on average $200 - $300 per month and the employer made up the difference of probably 3-4 hundred. so at $600 per month X 12 months = $7200 in premiums.
fortunatly for us...until douglas illness we never ever spent that much a year in medical care. Who kept that money?
4. health insurance for myself alone with a $5000 deductible is over $100 per month.
5. the children qualify for state health insurance as long as my monthly income sits below a certain level. and i pay nothing for that....
6. of course if i went back to work full time i would not 'need' the state run program....but then of course i'd be upside down with childcare costs...it is a fine line that many people out there know nothing about...those that i suspect have a very different opinion than me.
7. what i wish could happen is for me to purchase health insurance for the children. a general plan that would be available to all or on par with those folks that are fulltime employees and the cost of my premium would be based on my income. simple...i don't want free...i would love to be able to go work and contribute to the economy without the risk of loosing health care for my children.
8. i do believe that health care access is an inalienable rite.
9. i don't think it needs to be free....but affordable to ALL.
10. i think that the private industries of the drug companies and the insurance companies have skewed our health care system to benefit themselves FIRST and then to us. the checks and balances are not there.
i don't have the answers of course....but when i see the amount of money that the lobbyist are being paid for their services to the drug and insurance industries..i get sick to my stomach.
a couple comments i've heard from other people on the subject:
1. add five bucks to a grocery bill to go towards health care
2. make the medicaid recipients pay a five dollar/ten dollar copay
and from a purely chick perspective....darn it if that Weiner ain't a fine man.....whew wee...so so cute!!!
